La Lettre - short movie


In my spare time I'm working with my girlfriend on a short movie: La Lettre.
"The Letter" in english, not too hard to guess :)

We've been working on it for almost 8 months now, production really started 3 months ago and we have some 3d stuff to show now.

Killzone 3

I've been working for the past year on this great game, as a lighting artist. This was an awesome experience, everybody is really talented here at Guerrilla and graphically I think we achieved something amazing.

Music: Abakus - How does it feel to be real

I was testing different workflows to get a decent depth of field with realistic chromatic abberation. The idea was to figure out what was the best between double/normal sized renders, aliased/anti-aliased zdepth and beauty passes, frischluft/zblur/variblur, etc...
I recommand this free macro for Fusion: DepthDefocus

The test was made with only 1 pass for the beauty, which explain some artifacts in the DOF. Splitting the render into different layers for foreground and background objects is obviously the best solution to get rid of those.

Miscellaneous works

I was really busy at the end of last year, working on Killzone 3. But I really never stopped working in my spare time.

I worked with Kuru on the graphic identity of Kenagard, the company of a friend. We also helped them with their website.

I also started modeling a high-poly AK-47. Not that I really like weapons, but I have in mind to use it for a CG image.




For the moment I'm working on a short movie project, creating 3d environments, and compositing actors that have been shot in front of a green screen inside those backgrounds.

Coffee Cup

I was following a thread about rendering a coffee cup, on CGTalk. It's a simple render, just working on shaders without any textures. Here are my test renders (working time: around 1 hour and a half).

Added a spoon while testing Spraytrace for Menal Ray.

New pictures

I'm now lighting artist at Guerrilla Games, and I'm surrounded by really good photographers, which gives me even more the will to take pictures.

Working on a new project.



I'm working on several projects during my spare time. One of them should be released during next month (at least I hope so!). Here is a picture from this upcoming short movie.Rendering with mental ray, with the help of deex shaders.
Compositing in Nuke, a fast color correction in Lightroom (I just love its tools).


Update: This small project is postponed because of changes in my career :)

Terminator Salvation - Spider

During my spare time at Grin, I used some old assets (they are not used in the final version of the game anymore) to make a picture rendered in Maya with Mental Ray.



The sewer environment is from Simon Besombes, the robot is from Mattias Magito. The water has been added in Maya.

Kumacy - One Piece

I really like character designs from Eiichiro Oda, specially Kumacy, a big-zombie-teddy-bear with short arms who looks so ridiculous. I wanted to make a 3d version of it, using Mudbox, Maya and Photoshop.

3 days, 3 design products for the Jerome Jacquet's portfolio.

Still alone?

Alone has been released 1 month ago. The game mostly had average or bad marks from the press, but we received a bunch of good comments about environments and lighting. However, lots of players loved the game, in spite of all its defaults.

Alone in the Dark - 2007/2008

I'm now working since April 2007 at Eden Games Lyon, as a 3d/lighting/environment artist on different sequences of the game Alone in the Dark. My favorite part of my job is creating and lighting backgrounds, but I also works on generic objects like weapons, and real-time cinematics lighting.

Since the game isn't released yet, I can't post another screenshots or trailers that the ones that have been given to the press for the moment.

Low Poly Environment


A little building I began for the lessons I gave to ArtFX School, on video games environment modeling and texturing. The aim was to teach how to create normal maps, and how to optimize memory in video game, creating small tiling textures, then adding dirt maps on different UV set, or using patches and decals.

Full 3d image of my reflex camera. It tooks me 2 weeks and half, working during my spare time.

Turkey Tourism - 2006

I worked on this commercial when I was at Forêt-Bleue, Paris.
I modeled some objects that came out of water, like the hittite sun and the column. I also did compositing, removing wires and shooting crew using tracking and camera mapping technics.


It starts at 40s.

Thuraya - 2006

Another TV Commercial from Forêt-Bleue, Paris. I worked on tracking and modeled 3d objects, like the antenna.

L'Oreal Commercials - 2006

Full 3d Metro environment I did for the Element Project (Maya, compositing on Fusion, no Photoshop modifications).

Element - Fire Character - 2007

Another character's face I made, for the Element Project, with a little turn around video. Characters faces weren't made with lots of details because they only would be used for large shots; closes up were shot with real actors.



Element - Earth Character - 2007


This is one of the characters of a short movie I started at school, with Rudy Pierrat, Denis Robinet and Mathieu Aubin.
We modeled 3d faces of the actors for the large shots. The close-ups were to be shot with an HD cam.

These are some shots of a little exercise I made with Florian Rihn. Shooting with HD cam in Navacelles, 3d planes, animation and particles in Maya, Matte Painting in Photoshop, tracking in Matchmover, compositing in Combustion, editing in Adobe Premiere.

A WIP car that I won't be able to finish, since I lost the files in a HD crash. This is now rather a RIP than a WIP... But I really like cars, so there is a lot of chances that I work on another one soon.
